About

Since our inception, JW Glasswork has been focused on building a reliable and quality suite of scientific glassblowing services.

My interests originate in the applications of glass and glass ceramics. As a scientific glassblower, I work with researchers and institutions to design, build, and refine glass instrumentation. I find it deeply satisfying to witness a glass apparatus being used in experimental processes; when it is just right, it is just right.

Recent professional work has focused my desire to explore the science guiding instrument design and material selection, the needs of end-users and, driving it all, the research and methodology itself. Thoughts I am keen to examine include: what are contemporary constraints, and the role of glass, in scientific instrumentation?

I have over seventeen years of professional glassblowing experience. In that time, I have observed and facilitated connections between the diverse areas of research occurring among my client base. My practice aims to integrate academic, experimental, and fabrication experience and interests in a sustainable way. Please note: I do not work on military or defense related applications and do not provide referrals for such. I work with collaborators and on projects in alignment with my values, which are rooted in social justice and a rejection of western imperialism and colonization.
